Brazil’s Klabin offers Sadia packaging with socioenvironmental certification

Apr 08, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. Initiative results from Sadia’s partnership with Klabin and provides for use of cartonboard and corrugated certified with the trademark of the FSC - Forest Stewardship Council, which guarantees sustainable management of forests throughout the world. Sadia has led the way once again and has started to use socioenvironmentally correct packaging, certified with the trademark of the FSC - Forest Stewardship Council, an international body which attests to the responsible management of forests throughout the world. As of now, packaging made with cartonboard and corrugated board used by the company will be developed with the support of sustainable practices that include such processes as managing the forest, making paper, manufacturing the boxes and printing the cartridges. The product lines which will use certified packaging are for ready-to-serve meals, pizzas, hamburgers, pastries, food portions, salty snacks, bacon and the Miss Daisy desserts. More than 111 million units of cartridge-type boxes will be sold during the year with the FSC trademark on the side and another stamp on the front, drawing attention to the fact that this package is “ecological”, in other words, originates from sustainable processes. Klabin, Brazil’s biggest paper producer and exporter, was a pioneer in the Southern Hemisphere among companies from the sector and obtained FSC certification in 1998 for the forestry area. In 2007, with the certification of corrugated box and recycled paper production, 100% of Klabin’s production processes have now been certified.
