Feb 17, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Caraustar Industries, Inc. announced on February 16 that John T. Heald, Jr. has been added as a new independent member to its board of directors effective February 16, 2006. He will serve on the compensation and employee benefits committee. Mr. Heald, 60 years old, has over 30 years of experience in the paper and paperboard industry. Prior to his recent retirement from the John H. Harland Company, he was president of the Harland Printed Products division where he was responsible for reversing a seven-year unit volume decline, which positively resulted in revenues of $500 million and a pre-tax profit of $80 million. Heald also led the turnaround of Baldwin Technology Company, Inc., a global manufacturer of accessories and controls for the offset, gravure and flexographic printing industries. From 1999 to 2000, he was executive vice president/operations of Sappi Fine Paper North America. He initially excelled in the industry and to senior executive positions during his 22-year tenure at Union Camp Corporation including executive vice president/packaging group, senior vice president and general manager/converting division, vice president and general manager/container division, general sales and marketing manager of the container and kraft paper and board divisions, general manager of the company's multiwall packaging group and industrial relations manager/flexible division. He began his business career in 1972 with the Kendall Company and later worked at the Nestle Company from 1975 to 1976. Heald earned an MBA from Boston University Graduate Business School and a B.A. from Stetson University. He also serves as a director of American Nutrition Incorporated. Caraustar, a recycled packaging company, is one of the world's largest integrated manufacturers of converted recycled paperboard. Caraustar has developed its leadership position in the industry through diversification and integration from raw materials to finished products. Caraustar serves the four principal recycled boxboard product end-use markets: tubes, cores and composite cans; folding cartons; gypsum facing paper and specialty paperboard products.
