On October 23, Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov highlighted economic appeal of Kama pulp mill project at the meeting of the governmental Forest Industry Development Council in terms of replacing imported products. The interagency committee for top priority forest investment projects consideration headed by Yuri Utkin has already considered nine applications of Perm region enterprises. Five companies were included in the priority list, including Solikamskbumprom OJSC, Perm housing construction mill OJSC, Uralbumaga LLC. The top priority status will give the companies a possibility to obtain forestland without auctions. By 2012, these enterprises will carry out modernization of equipment and open new lines producing plywood, bent and laminated products, furniture board, and sawnwood. The companies are going to invest jointly in further timber processing about 24 billion roubles ($826 million) and create over 2,000 jobs in the region. Experts predict that tax returns of the regional forest industry will increase by 30%.
