The company Gorostidi fell a victim to the global economic crisis and faced existence problems. In its greatest times it played a very important role on the Western European markets and particularly on the markets of Central and South America. Since 1915 it has been a traditional local manufacturer of paper machines and pulp and paper technologies. It successively underwent several structural changes and still in the first decade of this century it grew and expanded on new markets of Southeast Asia. In 2006 the company opened a new and modern plant in the town of Tolosa, Basque country. At the same time it possessed a projecting and developmental centre in Valladolid. During this decade the company turnover amounted usually to Euro 30 million. In 2009 the company started facing economic problems, especially thanks to the overall economic situation and essential reduction of job-order production, partially also to high volumes of corporate liabilities that they were not able to settle and the company has been becoming stepwise insolvent. The technical level of the company Gorostidi was high as well as its rate of successful acquisitions of new orders; also thanks to its unique and patented technical solutions of some pulp and paper technologies. The corporate references covered more than 20 countries, among others Spain, France, Portugal, Belgium, Mexico, USA and China. A total number of paper machines sold by Gorostidi and delivered to its customers amounted to 40 new complete paper machines lines. The company also carried out more than 300 reconstructions and modernizations, overhauled 33 “second-hand machines“, etc. Gorostidi was a supplier to the greatest pulp and paper producers, such as International Paper, APP, Smurfit, Arjo Wiggins, Sonoco, Schweitzer-Mauduit, Otor, CMPC.
