Exports of Southern Pine lumber trended upward in April, amounting to nearly 54 million board feet (MMbf), according to the latest reports from the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service.
This volume represents a jump of 9% above the same month last year, mirroring the overall year-to-date increase of 9% when compared with the first four months of 2015, Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA) reports.
Offshore shipments during April roughly break down as follows: 28.5 MMbf dressed, 8.2 MMbf rough, and 17 MMbf treated lumber.
Softwood lumber imports to the U.S. remained high in April, reaching 1.4 billion board feet (Bbf), up a hefty 30% from the volume imported during April of 2015.
Through the first four months of this year, softwood imports are up 40% when compared with the same period a year ago.
