Swedish stocks of roundwood and wood chips increased by 13% in 1Q

Swedish total stocks of coniferous sawlogs, pulpwood and wood chips is estimated to amount 10.2 million m³ (cubic metres solid volume excluding bark) as at 31 March 2015. An increase by 13% compared with the same time frame as last year, Swedish Forest Agency said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

Stock volumes of coniferous sawlogs are estimated to amount 4.1 million m³. Compared with same time frame as last year this is a rise by 7%. The stock volumes of coniferous sawlogs increased in wood balance regions of 1-3, while it decreased in wood balance region 4, which is in the southern part of Sweden. The largest increase was in wood balance region 1, which is in the northern part of Sweden. Storm damage contributed to increase in stocks.

The total stocks of pulpwood amounted to 5.2 million m³ as at 31 March 2015 which is a rise by 23% compared to the same time frame of the year before. As per assortment pulpwood stocks were: 3.1 million m³ of mixed coniferous, 1.1 million m³ of spruce and 0.9 million m³ of broadleaved. Spruce pulpwood increased by 51%.

The stock volumes of wood chips are estimated to amount 0.9 million m³. This is a decline by 5% compared to March 31, 2014.
