Tops Fray Marcos S A was founded in 1986 to expand the family's involvement in wool; the grandparents of the current fourth generation began working with wool in Uruguay in the 1940s. The company combines the experience and tradition of a family business with more than 60 years in wool with the technology and flexibility of a modern operation. Facilities are located in Libertad, San José, Uruguay, about 45 minutes from Montevideo. The Libertad mill covers 20,000 sq m on a 117-hectare site where all production and waste-treatment processes are carried out, including irrigation of 70 hectares of forestry and 16 hectares of water-treatment ponds. The company has operated continuously since its founding and seeks to adapt to change while processing wool in ways that maintain and enhance the benefits of the natural fiber. It is committed to achieving and continuously improving standards of quality, safety and environmental care across its processes.
