International Paper shuts down machine

Jun 09, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Almost 90 employees at International Paper in Bastrop were out of work when machine 3 shut down at 6:30 Thursday morning. The mill manager says the market for the product made by Machine 3 is dwindling and the mill hasn't been getting many contracts for the product. The machine produces about 180-thousand tons of paper a year, used for envelops and other types of office paper. State Senator Robert Barham met with Governor Blanco Tuesday, to talk about the paper mill and the effect the loss of jobs will have on Bastrop and Northeast Louisiana.
