Swedish forest owners’ association Mellanskog reduces timber prices starting September 25, cutting rates for key assortments due to weak construction demand, growing stocks, and a stronger Swedish krona. Pine sawlogs fall by 50 kr/m3, while pine and spruce small-diameter logs and pulpwood decrease by 40 kr/m3. Fuelwood also drops 40 kr/m3, and slash (Grot) is lowered by 20 kr/m3s, according to Mellanskog.

Mellanskog started to decrease timber prices in August, after several years of price increases driven by strong global demand, infrastructure investments, and the need to improve forest accessibility. The latest adjustment may indicate a broader shift, as weak construction activity and declining sawmill profitability begin to affect harvesting operations. In the first half of 2025, Sweden’s exports of lumber dropped 14%, underscoring the pressure on the forest industry.

The current reduction follows a continued oversupply of wood on the market, driven by a mild winter and a strengthened Swedish krona. These factors have contributed to falling product prices across the forest industry. Despite the decrease, Mellanskog states that timber prices remain high and conditions favorable for forest owners.
