According to data from the Ukrainian Market Review monthly, in 1996-2002 the country's export of timber grew 4.8 times and hit USD 265.8 mln., wood import meanwhile lost only 38.5%, financial value coming to USD 72.7 mln. The crucial moment came in 1997. Financial changes in timber exports were caused mainly by a 7.6 time rise of revenues from broken-down timber and sleepers; crude timber sales brought revenues 3.7 times higher than before. Within total structure of exports, exports of the first articles grew by 19%, while the latter dropped supplied by 6%.
Ukraine raises timber export in 2002
According to data from the Ukrainian Market Review monthly, in 1996-2002 the country's export of timber grew 4.8 times and hit USD 265.8 mln., wood import meanwhile lost only 38.5%, financial value coming to USD 72.7 mln.
Upturn in timber exports was mostly fostered by greater physical supplies rather than higher prices. When export of the articles in 1996 was 414.8 mln. kg, over 1996-2002 it grew 4.9 times hitting 2,031.3 mln. kg in 2002.
Shipments of broken-down timber and sleepers leaped 8.2 times, while crude supplies were only 4.1 times up. This led to considerable changes in export pattern: the portion of broken-down timber increased by 15%, while crude timber share narrowed by 9%. Positive changes are also traced in other timber groups.
