Several leading positions are filled starting in January at the European Forest Institute (EFI). Dr. Marc Palahí has started his term as the new Director of EFI as of beginning of January. In addition EFI has strengthened its senior management by appointing Deputy Director and Assistant Director. Dr. Robert Mavsar has been appointed as the Deputy Director. As a Deputy Director he will be responsible for overseeing and guiding all operations of EFI, in close cooperation with the Director.

European Forest Institute appoints Dr. Robert Mavsar as the Deputy Director

Jan 08, 2015. /Lesprom Network/. Several leading positions are filled starting in January at the European Forest Institute (EFI). Dr. Marc Palahí has started his term as the new Director of EFI as of beginning of January. In addition EFI has strengthened its senior management by appointing Deputy Director and Assistant Director, as EFI said in the press release received by Lesprom Network. 

Dr. Robert Mavsar has been appointed as the Deputy Director. As a Deputy Director he will be responsible for overseeing and guiding all operations of EFI, in close cooperation with the Director. He will ensure the alignment of Research and Support activities with the EFI Strategy, and oversee EFI’s overall research activities and provide oversight and strategic guidance to other networking initiatives.

Dr. Mavsar joined EFI in 2007, first as a Senior Researcher, then as Deputy/Acting Head of EFIMED (2011-6/2013), and Head of Forest for Society Research Programme (7/2013- ). He has gained a wide knowledge in the organisation and activities of EFI, including its Regional Offices and Project Centres.

Dr. Lauri Hetemäki has been appointed as the Assistant Director for Policy Support. Previously he worked as the Head of Foresight and Policy Support Programme at EFI. He will also continue as a part-time Professor of Forest Sector Foresight at the University of Eastern Finland.

In his new post, Dr. Hetemäki will continue to work on strengthening the role of EFI in enhancing the use of science-based information and science-policy dialogue across all the stages of the policy processes, and coordinating the presence of EFI in existing European political structures and initiatives. Assistant Director leads, initiates, develops and coordinates EFI-level policy support work, in a close cooperation with EFI Member Countries, member organisations and EFI units.
