German packaging THIMM Group to build Euro 3.5 million plant in Romania

Mar 30, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. German cardboard packaging materials producer THIMM Group said it would invest Euro 3.5 million ($4.2 million) to build a corrugated cardboard plant in central Romania this year. The construction of the plant, to be located near the city of Sibiu, will start sometime in June, while production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year, THIMM Group told SeeNews in a statement. The company declined to provide figures for the plant's output capacity. The investment is part of a five-year programme of around Euro 10 million that the company has drafted for expansion in Romania. THIMM Group set up a joint venture with Romanian corrugated cardboard maker Aleximi Eco-Prod in January. The new company is called Aleximi & THIMM. Romanian corrugated cardboard products market is estimated at some 120 million Euro or 210,000 tonnes a year. The main players are domestic companies Ambro, Ecopack and Rondocarton. THIMM Group has four production units in Germany and one in the Czech Republic. It invested some Euro 28 million in its German operations in the past five years.
