Greenstar buys Leicester Paper Processors

Jun 30, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. Waste management company Greenstar has bought Leicester Paper Processors, a commercial recycling business, to increase its network of materials recycling facilities (MRFs), Recycling and waste management reported. Leicester Paper Processors’ MRF processes 45 thousand tonnes of recyclables a year and is part of Greenstar’s plans to develop a series of ‘super MRFs’ near major urban centres. These ‘super MRFs’ will link to a ‘feeder spine’ of smaller MRFs, to process commingled and source-separated materials. With this acquisition Greenstar chief executive Ian Wakelin said his company will be able to attract more commercial and local authority customers in the East Midlands and from this feed increasing volumes of material to Greenstar’s Aldridge plant. Wakelin said: “Leicester Paper Processors gives us the opportunity to further develop our combined waste and recycling service which is used by hundreds of commercial and industrial customers across the UK. It’s popular because it helps companies to reduce waste, and therefore cost, and to meet their environmental obligations by recycling more. Our experience is that commingled collection schemes drive up recycling because they are so easy to use.”
