'The decision to raise import duties was right strategically, but in terms of global crisis its postponing will reduce risks of shutting down of many Russian timber harvesting companies and will give them extra time', said Mr. Herbert, 'Apart from that, this measure will consolidate partnership between Russian and Scandinavian companies', he added. Taking into account the global financial crisis, Russian Government decided to postpone implying new export duties on roundwood for 9-10 months, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin announced after a meeting with his Finnish colleague Matti Vanhanen. 'We will grant the investors, including Finnish ones, very interesting investment offers in Russian timber processing industry', Putin promised.
