FSC already has 174 Chain of Custody (CoC) certificate holders in Taiwan. Consumer awareness of FSC is quite strong in the country and it keeps growing with the active support of global brands such as Kimberly Clark and Tetrapak.
FSC is now strengthening its market links in the country as local companies, the forest industry, and the Taiwanese government become more engaged with FSC. Certification represents a great opportunity for local production As the Taiwanese timber market depends heavily on imported timber and wood products (99.5% of the overall market) certification would be an incentive to engage with local production in the marketplace.
Jang Chang Liang Co., Ltd. supplies building material. They also manage 212 ha of conifer forests in the low mountain areas of Hsinchu County in North Taiwan. The company received technical support from Taiwan Forestry Research Institute and Taiwan Forestry Certification Development Committee while working towards its certification.
The next step for Taiwan is the development of FSC national standard indicators – a FSC National Standard Development Group has been set up locally and is working on the process.
