Maibec acquires Fraser Timber's lumber mill in Masardis, Maine

Jan 27, 2015. /Lesprom Network/. Maibec Inc. and Fraser Timber LLC concluded Maibec's purchase of the assets of the Masardis, Maine lumber mill. The mill employs approximately 135 people and can produce over 100 million board feet of softwood lumber annually, which is sold in the U.S., as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

"This acquisition gives Maibec its first place of business in the U.S. and represents an important milestone in our growth. Among other things, the mill's geographic location will give us easier access to the U.S. market and allow us to increase our market share," said François Tardif, President of Maibec.

Maibec plans to make strategic investments over the next two years in the Masardis mill, which produces lumber primarily for the construction and renovation markets. This new production will now be added to that of Maibec's plant in St. Pamphile, Quebec, and allow the company to serve customers across Quebec, Ontario and the northeast and southern U.S.

Over the years, Maibec's unique expertise has made it the brand of reference in its respective markets. It is especially well-known for its solid wood siding and white cedar shingles, which bring charm and beauty to any residential style and setting, be it urban, rural or coastal.

Maibec Inc. is a Quebec -based family business that has been active in the wood processing sector since 1946. This latest acquisition brings maibec's workforce to nearly 850 employees.
