The Cincinnati mill, which has been in operation since the 1940s, is one of RockTenn's older and smaller mills. RockTenn noted that the mill's age, along with market-related conditions were factors in the decision to close the mill.
RockTenn spokeswoman Robin Keegan said that significant capital expenditures would have been needed to bring the mill into compliance with the EPA's recently revised Clean Air Act standards known as Boiler MACT, which takes effect in January of 2016.
Keegan said that production from the Cincinnati mill would be transferred to plants in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Eaton, Indiana.
The Cincinnati mill has the capacity to produce 53,000 tons per year of uncoated recycled paperboard used in the industrial converting tube and core markets.
