Sarawak (Malaysia) log production for the first eight months totaled 4.9 million cubic metres. For the same period last year production was 7% higher at 5.3 million cubic metres, ITTO reported.

Between January and August this year Sarawak exported 1.7 million cubic metres of logs worth RM1 billion ($238 million). India was the biggest export market taking 913,094 cubic metres (worth RM 715 million ($170 million) in the same period.

Indonesia was the second biggest export market for Sarawak logs taking 565,072 cubic metres (worth RM 110 million ($26.2 million). Taiwan P.o.C was third ranked at 125,539 cubic metres (RM102 million ($24.3 million) followed by Vietnam, 80,838 cubic metres (RM50 million ($11.9 million).
