In its first major investment in a North American planned community, Sumitomo Forestry Seattle Inc. has joined forces with Cascadia to develop the community’s first resort. This global organization headquartered in Japan has formed a joint venture with Cascadia to develop approximately 520 acres of the 5thousand-acre East Pierce County site over the next 5years. Financial terms were not disclosed. “We are pleased to join forces with Patrick Kuo and the Cascadia team to develop this beautiful site using sustainable forestry and building practices, and conservation principles,” said Ryu Yano, president of Sumitomo Forestry Co. Ltd. of Japan. “We look forward to contributing to Washington’s largest planned community and bringing our sustainable solutions and technologies to the Pacific Northwest and beyond.” The joint venture, called Cascadia Resort Communities LLC, will be led by Kuo, with Masanobu Nishikawa, general manager of Sumitomo Forestry Seattle Inc. serving as the Sumitomo principal. Sumitomo Forestry is one of the largest forest management companies in Japan, managing approximately 100 thousand acres of Japan’s forestland. The company utilizes timber as a renewable, healthy and environmentally friendly natural resource, and contributes to a prosperous society through all types of housing-related services. It engages in forest management and sales of forest products and building materials.
