Sweden's area notified for felling in February 2024 decreased 25%, compared to the same month 2023. The area regarding applications for permits for final felling in montane forests decreased to barely one seventh, compared to the same month last year, according to the Swedish Forest Agency.

The area of notified logging and permits applied for was 17,608 hectares in February, which was a decrease of 25%, compared to February 2023. Of this area, applications for permits for final felling of montane forests represented 417 hectares, compared with 3,006 hectares in the same month last year.

Compared to the average area of notifications and applications for the country in February over the previous five years, this is a decrease of 7%. Compared to the average area for the previous ten years, this is an increase of 2%.

So far this year, the area covered by notifications and applications has decreased by 23%

For January to February 2024, the area of notifications and applications for permits for final felling was 32,486 hectares, which is a decrease of 23%, compared to the same period last year. So far this year, the area of applications for permits for final felling of montane forests is 779 hectares, for the corresponding period last year the area was 3,308 hectares.

In Northern Norrland, the area notified and applied for has decreased by 43%, in Southern Norrland by 13%, in Svealand by 38 percent and in Götaland by 4%, compared to the corresponding period 2023.

Compared to the average area of notifications and applications for the country in the corresponding period for the previous five years, it is a decrease of 15%. Compared to the previous ten years, it is a decrease of 12%.
