The yearly results from the Swedish Forest Agency’s inventory on quality of post-felling regrowth shows that regeneration quality remains unchanged. The percentage area of scarification has increased steadily. About 80% of the regeneration area is regarded as in compliance with legal requirements of the Swedish Forestry Act. The recent follow-up also shows that 90% of final felled area was prepared with scarification, which is about 15 percentage points more than in 1990s.

The yearly results from the Swedish Forest Agency’s inventory on quality
of post-felling regrowth shows that regeneration quality remains unchanged. The
percentage area of scarification has increased steadily, as Swedish Forest
Agency said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.
About 80% of the regeneration area is regarded as in compliance with
legal requirements of the Swedish Forestry Act. The recent follow-up also shows
that 90% of final felled area was prepared with scarification, which is about 15
percentage points more than in 1990s.
Scarification is more common in northern Sweden where nearly all
land planted has been scarified.
Swedish Forest Agency will further analyze the results and present the
analysis on 24 of November 2014.
