U.S. Customs&Border Protection initiates investigation into evading hardwood plywood duties

U.S. Customs&Border Protection (CBP) has initiated a major hardwood plywood circumvention action, according to the Decorative Hardwoods Association.

CBP will investigate whether a group of importers (Far East American Inc., Ciel Group, Inc., American Pacific Plywood. Inc., InterGlobalForest and Liberty Wood International, Inc.) have been evading anti-dumping and countervailing duties on select hardwood plywood from China by transshipping Chinese white birch plywood through Vietnam.

Because the evidence thus far establishes a reasonable suspicion that the importers have entered merchandise into the United States through evasion, CBP has imposed interim measures.
