Volga expands cooperation with WWF

Jul 06, 2015. /Lesprom Network/. OJSC Volga (Russia) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) have entered into an agreement to cooperate in the framework of an environment support program, as the company said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.

An agreement includes the exchange of best practices and information for the implementation of environmental projects, discussing the ways to strengthen the forest sector in Russia, rendering charity support to Russia’s designated conservation areas, and development of sustainable forest management.

Volga is concerned with ensuring a stable supply of timber products of environmentally responsible origin and preserving Russia’s forest heritage; therefore it has been cooperating with WWF over a period of several years and is also involved in the Association of Environmentally Responsible Timber Companies of Russia (GFTN-Russia). The Association aims—among other things—to apply concerted efforts for the sake of conservation and expansion of forests in Russia and development of intensive and sustainable forest management.

“Environmental protection is a priority line in our social policy. The Agreement is an important step for the cause of conservation of natural resources and sustainable forest management. We are glad that our cooperation with the World Wide Fund for Nature is of long-term nature as it provides a guarantee of sustainable development in our region,” says Volga’s General Director Dmitry Donchenko.
