Dec 03, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. Minas Basin Pulp and Power of Hantsport will shut down the linerboard side of its operations for three weeks in the face of diminishing demand for product, The Chronicle Herald reported. But company President Scott Travers added there is no reason for alarm, because the company regularly makes such adjustments, usually three out of every four years. The company makes linerboard from 100% recycled cardboard, for use in corrugated boxes. The shutdown from Dec. 12 to Jan. 5 will affect about 100 full-time employees. The company, which is Nova Scotia-owned, sells half of its paper products in the Maritimes and the rest to markets in Ontario, Quebec and the eastern U.S. Mr. Travers said the shutdown is taking place over the Christmas season, and many employees have planned for it and will take vacation time. The shutdown will not affect the hydro-generation side of the business.
