Jan 08, 2009. /Lesprom.com/. The Georgia-Pacific plywood plant in Jasper County, Georgia, which closed down in late fall of 2007, is back in operation, Lesprom Network informed according to The Monticello News. The facility, which originally employed approximately 300 individuals, has hired back 40 to 50 employees, with two shifts to make veneer. Julie Davis, Georgia-Pacific Corporate Communications Manager, confirmed the above, but also said, “We do not expect any change in these numbers in the short term, and we can’t speculate with the market being what it is. However, we are glad we could bring some of the employees back.” The operations of the two other Georgia-Pacific plants in the county, the Stud Mill and the Panel Board, which employees approximately 120, have continued to operate.
