Immediately after World War II, Alfio Barbieri, with the fundamental contribution of his wife Giuditta, diversified his activities from agricultural work to timber trading. Initially, the company selected the best qualities of national and Austrian timber such as fir and larch, mainly serving the window frame sector. Barbieri Legnami expanded its market scope by importing wood species from almost all over the world and offering an increasingly wide range of semi-finished products and woodworking materials. In the 1980s, the company developed an internal division for construction, employing qualified collaborators to provide load-bearing structures such as roofs and floors, from design to installation.
