In Finland, energywood trade continued at a slow pace in the third quarter of 2025. Between July and September, total wood purchases were half of the volume recorded a year earlier and two-fifths lower than the five-year average, according to the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke).

A total of 0.6 million cubic meters of energywood was recorded in trade statistics during the quarter. Compared with the same period last year, this represents a 53% decrease, while the figure was 40% below the average of the previous five years.

Cumulative purchase volumes for January–September 2025 were two-fifths lower than a year earlier. Both logging residues and delimbed stems contributed equally to the decline. Compared with the average for the past five years, total energywood purchases were down 16%. The amount of logging residues decreased by 7%, and the volume of delimbed stems declined by more than one-third.

In standing sales, the average price of logging residues fell by 8% from the previous quarter to Euro 14.96 per cubic meter. The average price of delimbed stems rose by 5% to Euro 24.01.

In delivery sales, the average price of logging residues dropped by 16% to Euro 25.94 per cubic meter. The delivery price of delimbed stems remained almost unchanged at Euro 45.56.

Logging residues accounted for slightly more than half of all energywood traded in the quarter, while delimbed stems represented more than one-quarter of the total volume.
