Finland harvests 3.7 million m3 of roundwood for industrial use in May, a 16% increase from May last year and 2% below the five-year average, according to the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke).
From January to May, industrial roundwood removals reach 27.2 million m3, 8% more than in the same period a year earlier.
In May, sawlog removals total 1.8 million m3 and pulpwood removals 1.9 million m3.
Between January and May, log removals amount to 11.368 million m3, up 5% year-on-year: pine logs 5.085 million m3 (+3%), spruce logs 5.771 million m3 (+8%) and hardwood logs 0.512 million m3 (+4%).
Pulpwood removals total 15.868 million m3 in January–May, 10% above last year’s volume: pine pulpwood 6.959 million m3 (+6%), spruce pulpwood 4.821 million m3 (+17%) and hardwood pulpwood 4.088 million m3 (+8%).
Industrial roundwood removals from non-industrial private forests reach 2.8 million m3 in May, up 22% year-on-year, while removals from forest industry companies’ and state-owned forests total 0.8 million m3, down 1%.
Energywood removals reach 0.6 million m3 in May, of which 39% are delimbed stems and whole-trees. From January to May, energywood harvests total 2.9 million m3.
