Jan 20, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Mohawk Fine Papers Inc., the largest manufacturer of premium printing, writing and imaging papers in the country and a pioneer in sustainable manufacturing, announced on Thursday 19 January the appointment of Charles H. Greiner, Jr. to the Mohawk Fine Papers board of directors. The appointment is effective immediately.
"The knowledge and expertise of Mr. Greiner will be a clear asset to Mohawk. His extensive experience in the industry, specifically in sales and distribution, is invaluable. I look forward to his counsel regarding our traditional distribution channels as well as his insights into new channels of distribution necessary to fuel our growth," says Thomas D. O'Connor, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer.
Mr. Greiner is a 32-year veteran of the paper and forest products industry. He began his industry career in 1972 at Union Camp Corporation where he held a number of management positions. His first 10 years were spent in sales and marketing. In 1982, he was chosen to assist with the start-up of a $600 million "greenfield" paper mill in Eastover, South Carolina. He later advanced to vice president and general manager of Union Camp's printing paper business. Following the acquisition of Union Camp in 1999 by International Paper, Mr. Greiner was appointed senior vice president of the company's printing and communications papers, a newly formed printing paper business and the largest in the world. From 2003 until his retirement in June 2004, he was senior vice president of commercial development.
Mr. Greiner, 58, has held key industry positions and/or played a leadership role for such organizations as the AFPA Printing Paper Committee, Paper Distribution Council and the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation. He has also been a director of United Way of Midsouth and a trustee of Old Dominion University Foundation. Mr. Greiner is currently an independent director of Caraustar Industries, Inc., a recycled paperboard and packaging company that does not compete with Mohawk. He recently received the National Paper Trade Association's Stanley O. Styles Industry Excellence Award for his commitment to the distribution business, innovation in the field and good citizenry.
"Mr. Greiner is a welcome addition to our 13-person board," says Mr. O'Connor. "Mohawk is a privately held company that is run with the financial rigor of a public company. Last year the company doubled in size through the strategic acquisition of the Fine Papers business of International Paper. Our approach to business management and corporate governance is important to the future of Mohawk Fine Papers. We have developed a board to effectively lead our company through the next state of its development. Our priorities include the effective management of finances from the acquisition as well as growth through a broader distribution base. Our board is comprised of directors experienced in all critical aspects of business operations bringing depth and diversity," he noted. "And they also represent the needs of our stakeholders including owners, customers, employees and distributors."
