Komatsu Forest launches new flexible bunk

Mar 12, 2014. /Lesprom Network/. The ability to adjust forwarder bunks to timber characteristics has become an increasingly important aspect of high productivity. A flexible bunk can always be optimized to achieve the maximum load capacity, regardless of timber density. Consequently, Komatsu Forest has launched a number of new features to increase forwarder bunk flexibility and efficiency, as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

LoadFlex is one example that enables the bunk to be widened to optimize load capacity. LoadFlex even offers the option to weigh the load, further increasing safety.

Another example is the new FlexBunk solution, which makes the bunk flexible in both height and width. With FlexBunk, the bunk can be widened mechanically and the supports raised or lowered hydraulically. This makes it possible to always utilize the maximum load capacity regardless of factors such as timber length, density, and diameter. This also provides a much lower lift height for the crane, which benefits productivity when thinning in tight stands.

Yet another example is the new flexible gate, FlexGate, based on a patented design. The FlexGate flexes out of the way when making contact with the crane, protecting both the gate and the crane, and as such the gate could be designed to offer much better visibility from the cab to the bunk.

The different solutions – FlexBunk and LoadFlex – are available as options on most of Komatsu's new forwarder models.
