The Latvijas Finieris Group has commenced large-scale production testing of an innovative birch wood extract called oleogel at its Betulin Lab facility. The transition from laboratory research to small-scale industrial production is enabled by a newly acquired 50-litre reactor, marking a critical phase in the product's development and potential commercialization. This progress was confirmed by Māris Būmanis, a Member of the Executive Board of Latvijas Finieris.
The development team is now focused on ensuring stable and reproducible production, completing necessary quality and safety tests, and preparing documentation for the oleogel's integration into cosmetic products.
The innovation is being developed in collaboration with the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry and cosmetics manufacturer Labrains.
The oleogel is made using birch wood extract containing biologically active triterpene compounds.
