Sweden's area of notified logging and permits applied for was 14,873 hectares in January, which was a decrease of 21%, compared to January 2023. Of this area, applications for permits for final felling of montane forests represented 362 hectares, compared with 302 hectares in the same month last year, according to the Swedish Forest Agency.

Compared to the average area of notifications and applications for the country in January over the previous five years, this is a decrease of 24%. Compared to the average area for the previous ten years, this is a decrease of 25%.

The total area of notifications and applications decreased for all regions in January, compared with the same period last year.
