Both sawlog and pulpwood prices in Sweden decreased during the 3Q 2019 for the first time since 2016. The sawlog price decreased by 5.5% while the pulpwood price decreased by 4.7 % compared to the 2Q 2019.

Swedish Forest Agency: Sawlog prices in Sweden decreased by 7.4% in 3Q

Both sawlog and pulpwood prices in Sweden decreased during the 3Q 2019 for the first time since 2016. The sawlog price decreased by 5.5% while the pulpwood price decreased by 4.7 % compared to the 2Q 2019, as Swedish Forest Agency reported.

The sawlog price started decreasing earlier in 2019 but the decline has intensified during the 3Q and was stronger in southern Sweden. The Southern region had a decrease of 8.5% while the sawlog price in the Central region decreased by 5.2%. In the Northern region the price instead increased slightly by 1%.

During the first two quarters of 2019 the pulpwood price was either relatively unchanged or slightly increasing. This has changed and the price has started to decrease during the 3Q. The decline was strongest in the Central region, 6.7%. The Southern region saw a decrease of 2.6% while prices instead increased in the Northern region by 2.6%.
In comparison to the 3Q 2018 the price on sawlog decreased by 7.4% nationally. Regionally, prices decreased by 9.3% in the Southern region, 9.7% in the Central region and 1.1% in the Northern region.

The pulpwood price increased by 2.4% nationally. There are however large differences across the regions. In the Southern region the price increased marginally by 0.7%, in the Central region by 1.7% while the Northern region had a larger increase by 14.5%.
