U.S. 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.46% as of 2 April 2026, up from 6.38 % the previous week. A year ago at this time, the 30-year FRM averaged 6.64%, according to Freddie Mac.
The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.77%, up from 5.75% last week. A year earlier, the 15-year FRM averaged 5.82%.
Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sam Khater noted that with the spring homebuying season underway, buyers can potentially save thousands of dollars by obtaining multiple rate quotes.
