The average U.S. 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rose to 6.38% for the week ending 26 March 2026, up from 6.22% the previous week. The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.75%, an increase from 5.54% a week earlier, according to Freddie Mac.
Both rates remain below their levels from a year ago, when the 30-year averaged 6.65% and the 15-year stood at 5.89%.
Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sam Khater noted that purchase and refinance applications are up year-over-year despite recent rate volatility, with rates continuing to track lower than their prior-year averages.
