In the week ending November 11, 2022, the price of benchmark softwood lumber item Western Spruce-Pine-Fir 2x4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was again US$490 mfbm, said weekly forest products industry price guide newsletter Madison’s Lumber Reporter. This is up by +$28, or +6%, from one month ago when it was $463.

Elevated mortgage rates, high construction costs for concrete and other building materials, and weakening demand stemming from deteriorating affordability conditions continue to act as a drag on single-family housing production in the USA.

US LBM has expanded its reach in the New York metropolitan area, opening a new roofing and siding focused location in Whippany, New Jersey. The new location will operate under US LBM’s Universal Supply division.

Over the first nine months of 2022, the total number of U.S. single-family permits issued year-to-date (YTD) nationwide reached 800,424. On a year-over-year (YoY) basis, this is 7.4% below the September 2021 level of 864,184.
