Buckeye restarts specialty pulp production at Foley plant after drum incident

Jun 25, 2012. /Lesprom Network/. Buckeye Technologies has restarted specialty pulp production on the pulp line no.1 on 22 June after five days of downtime to fix damage caused by a drum incident on fluff pulp line no. 2. Fluff pulp machine no. 2, where the steam drum failure actually occurred, has suffered a greater damage and remains offline for the time being. According to Buckeye, repair works on the pulp line no. 2 have already begun but it was still too early to provide a firm start-up date, as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network. Production at Buckeye’s Foley cellulose fibre plant near Perry, Florida had to be idled on 17 June due to a steam drum failure on fluff pulp line no. 2, causing damage to multiple drums and structural damage to the production building, Buckeye announced. There were no injuries to personnel and there was not a fire, the company reported. Investigation to determine the root cause of the drum failure continues. Foley pulp plant runs two production lines with a combined capacity of 465,000 tpy. Pulp line no.1 churns out about 190,000 tpy of wood-based specialty pulp. Machine no. 2 offers an annual capacity of 275,000 t of fluff pulp.
