Canadian softwood lumber export price decreases 16% in July

In July, the average price for softwood lumber exported from Canada decreased 15.5% compared to the previous month at $267 per m3, according to Lesprom Analytics. This is 26.8% cheaper than a year ago, when it was $364.

Canada’s exports of softwood lumber dipped 2.3% year-on-year to 2.77 million m3. The value of exports fell 29% to $738 million. 

Exports of softwood lumber from Canada to the U.S. edged up 1.2% year-on-year to 2.5 million m3. Canadian supplies to Japan decreased by 28% to 87 thousand m3, and those to China decreased by 22% to 74 thousand m3.
