Derome, a Swedish wood products and building materials group, has invested in new equipment at its wood packaging plant in Smålandsstenar, Sweden. The investment expanded the product range and increases production efficiency at the site, according to Derome.

The new equipment includes an automated pallet nailing machine and a package saw. The new production setup will let the plant produce not only standard-format pallets, but also special-format pallets and pallets with both dense and open decks.

Derome said the higher precision in the production process will result in more even product quality, while the added capacity will shorten lead times for customers.

The Smålandsstenar site supplies customer-specific wood packaging to manufacturing customers. Derome’s own sawmills and purchasing organization provide a stable timber supply.

Division manager Glenn Sandersson said order intake is becoming more stable and that the business is seeing larger deals after a period of weak market conditions. The company expects the investment to improve delivery reliability and meet rising demand from existing and new customers.
