IlimSeverLes received forest management FSC certification

Oct 12, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. IlimSeverLes (Irkutsk region, Russia, Kotlass group of Ilim Pulp enterprises) has received forest management FSC certification, Ilim Pulp press-service reported. Receiving of certificate by IlimSeverLes was the last necessary condition for obtain the right to mark Kotlassky PPM production by FSC logotype. According to director of FSC Russian office Andrey Ptichnikov, IlimSeverLes forest management FSC certification is an important stage in certification process of Ilim Pulp Corp., which has great importance for Russian forest industry. At present the corporation has certified about 40 million hectares of leased forest area or 40% of all Russian certified forests. The certification is also important in the view of fulfillment of engagements that Russia has assumed on FLEG process. “Certification of Ilim Pulp Corporation is an important factor not only for increase of competitiveness of company’s forest products, but also in connection with perspective of adoption of new forest code, which envisages transmission of forest management functions to lessees”, Ptichnikov noted. The audit was conducted by independent specialists from German GFA Terra Systems in cooperation with Russian audit firm Europartner.
