Improved Forestry Code to Be Introduced to Russian Parliament in 2004: Russian Ministry of nature resources forestry management department chief

Improved draft of forestry code will be introduced to the Russian Parliament (State Duma) at the beginning of 2004, Russian Ministry for nature resources forestry management department chief Viktor Nefediev said at the meeting of interregional association Sibirskoye Soglashenye in Irkutsk. The new forestry code draft is completely different from the 12 recently presented by various ministries and departments, Nefediev said. Nefediev said the creation of a separate forestry and timber-industry ministry is not advisable. - Presently an absolute majority of timber-industry enterprises are joint-stock companies, while the timber-industry regulating institutions are state-managed - he said. - The ministry’s work be unilateral.
