Industrial roundwood purchases in Finland fell by 28% in December compared to the same month a year earlier. The total volume was also 27% lower than the average for the previous five years, according to Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke).
Preliminary figures show that total roundwood purchases for the full year 2025 were 19% lower than in 2024. The annual volume remained 9% below the five-year average.
The decline in industrial roundwood prices continued in December. Average stumpage prices for pine and spruce sawlogs fell by 1% from November. The average prices of pulpwood declined by 4–6% depending on tree species and trade type.
In standing sales, the average price for spruce sawlogs was Euro 77.78 per m3, pine sawlogs Euro 74.28 per m3, and birch sawlogs Euro 59.07 per m3. Compared to November, spruce and pine sawlog prices decreased by 1%, and birch sawlogs by 6%. Since June, the average prices of pine and birch sawlogs have fallen by about Euro 10, while spruce sawlogs decreased by Euro 8.
Stumpage prices for pulpwood also declined in December. The average price of spruce pulpwood fell to Euro 26.12 per m3, and prices for pine and birch pulpwood were Euro 23.99 per m3 and Euro 23.76 per m3 respectively. Compared to June, nationwide average pulpwood prices have fallen by more than Euro 10. Prices for pine and birch pulpwood have decreased by more than 30% in six months, and spruce pulpwood by 28%.
In delivery sales, the price of spruce pulpwood decreased to Euro 45.75 per m3, while pine and birch pulpwood stood at Euro 43.10 per m3 and Euro 43.41 per m3 respectively. Since June, delivery prices for pine and birch pulpwood have dropped by Euro 10, and spruce pulpwood by more than Euro 8.
Average December prices in standing sales were: pine sawlogs Euro 74.28 per m3, spruce sawlogs Euro 77.78 per m3, birch sawlogs Euro 59.07 per m3, pine pulpwood Euro 23.99 per m3, spruce pulpwood Euro 26.12 per m3, and birch pulpwood Euro 23.76 per m3. In delivery sales, pine pulpwood averaged Euro 43.10 per m3, spruce pulpwood Euro 45.75 per m3, and birch pulpwood Euro 43.41 per m3.
Overall, pulpwood prices in standing sales have declined by about 30% since June, and by 28–30% in delivery sales.
