Rengo enters into agreement for OEM manufacturing of cellulose microbeads

Rengo has entered into an agreement to commence OEM manufacturing of some products of the cellulose microbeads (trade name: Cellulobeads) manufactured and sold by Daito Kasei Kogyo in Japan.

In recent years, marine pollution from plastic microbeads has become a problem. However, as cellulose microbeads are biodegradable, demand for those materials as a substitute for plastic microbeads has increased globally, particularly in Europe.

Daito Kasei Kogyo has been manufacturing and selling Cellulobeads for some time as raw materials for cosmetics. With demand increasing against the backdrop of the plastic microbeads environmental problem, the company has responded by considering further increasing the manufacturing of Cellulobeads, resulting in a request that Rengo become an OEM manufacturer.

Rengo already manufactures and sells spherical cellulose beads (trade name: Viscopearl). Entering into this agreement will provide the opportunity to strengthen its collaborative relationship with Daito Kasei Kogyo and further expand Rengo’s cellulose-related business as a substitute for plastics.
