Rengo Co., Ltd. announces that it has obtained Net Zero Energy Building (ZEB) certification for its Yashio mill in Japan.

The new office building of Yashio Mill is scheduled to open in spring next year. This new building conserves energy by using exterior walls with excellent thermal insulation and installing high-efficiency air conditioning equipment, and it generates energy using solar power generation. Through this combination of energy conservation and energy generation, it was recognized that the building reduces energy consumption by 51% from the standard primary energy consumption and creates 67% energy that exceeds the reduced value.

As a result, it received the highest five-star grade under the Building-Housing Energy-efficiency Labeling System (BELS), and at the same time, obtained ZEB certification that is given to buildings with net zero or negative annual primary energy consumption.

BELS evaluation agencies evaluate a building's primary energy consumption based on five stages to label energy conservation performance. In addition, obtaining ZEB certification requires the receiving of a five-star grade under BELS.
