In Lindvallen, Sweden, retail company ICA is currently building a new supermarket in Swedish mass timber. The property has a strong sustainability focus, with both the materials and design reflecting local building traditions, as Setra Group reports.

“Wood is sustainable and far-sighted choice and we believe there is great potential to build more in wood in our future projects,” says Lena Boberd, CEO of ICA Fastigheter.

German retailer Lidl is also investing in wood, with its new store in Gotland due for completion in July 2020 and set to be the world's first carbon-neutral supermarket, according to certification scheme NollCO2.
