Sinclar Group Forest Products Ltd. will reduce production by approximately 40% at its Apollo Forest Products, Nechako Lumber Co., and Lakeland Mills operations starting October 27. The curtailments are equivalent to the closure of one full mill, affecting operations in Fort St. James, Vanderhoof, and Prince George. The decision responds to fibre supply uncertainty, economic pressures, and U.S. tariffs on Canadian lumber, according to Sinclar Group Forest Products.
Sinclar President Greg Stewart stated that the decision will deeply affect employees, their families, and the communities the company serves. He stressed the urgent need for collective action by the provincial and federal governments, First Nation titleholders, industry partners, and forestry companies to address systemic challenges in British Columbia’s forest sector.
Sinclar produces stud lumber, wood pellets, and bioenergy from residual wood, operating Premium Pellet in Vanderhoof in addition to the three lumber mills impacted by the production reduction.
