TietoEnator implements quality management system at UPM Steyrermühl in Austria

Jun 29, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. TietoEnator has implemented a new quality management system at the UPM Steyrermühl mill. The delivery is part of a comprehensive modernization process at the mill. The newly implemented system is based on TietoEnator Integrated Paper Solution (TIPS) which is a sales and production management solution for the pulp, paper, board and tissue industries. The project was a renewal of the old system enabling it to better respond to future mill requirements. With the new system, Steyrermühl mill obtains enhanced functionalities and a modern user-interface, plus, the new system is still compatible with existing process data and mill systems. It enables a wide scope of reporting and analysis capabilities and provides integration possibilities. All together, the new quality management system responds well to the future enhancement needs. The system makes it possible to fully utilize the masses of master- and quality-data stored in the centralized database. The system handles up to 15 000 measured values and produces various real-time information profiles according to user needs, all the way down to value-by-second. By implementing the TIPS product, UPM Steyrermühl exploits the benefits of system harmonisation, achieving reduced maintenance costs and unified mill management processes. "We have been able to improve the quality management processes significantly. Now when data from various different sources can be utilised for analysis and reporting purposes, it has significantly improved the information flow on quality issues at the mill. Project teams of TietoEnator and UPM Steyrermühl performed excellent cooperation and managed to meet the tight eight months schedule," says Mr. Andreas Rauscher, director production at UPM Steyrermühl. "In 2002 TietoEnator was chosen as the corporate partner for UPM in the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) area. Partnership means a lot to us - bringing business value to our customers being the most important element. We are really proud to be able to live up to those expectations. Further to the quality management system project, we are now preparing a roll-out of the production management system based on TIPS, which will bring more synergies enabling even better efficiency," says Markus Rintelen, sales director of pulp and paper mill solutions in Central-Europe.
