U.S. boxboard production decreased 2% in the Q4 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to the American Forest & Paper Association. The sector’s operating rate was 85.6%, a decline of 2.3 percentage points from the fourth quarter of the previous year.

Production in specific categories showed varied performance. Output for tube, can and drum materials decreased 4% year-over-year for the quarter. In contrast, production of unbleached kraft and coated recycled boxboard remained essentially flat, showing a marginal increase of 0.2% compared to the Q4 2024.

Unmade orders for several key boxboard grades increased in December 2025 compared to December 2024.
