Escanaba Timber LLC announced today that it will begin operating as an independent company, managing approximately 900,000 acres of forestlands in Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Tennessee. The acreage was recently acquired from MeadWestvaco (NYSE:MWV). Escanaba Timber is the major wood supplier in its geographic markets. It has entered into a long-term supply agreement with NewPage Corporation, to ensure that the forestland owned by Escanaba Timber will remain a key source of wood supply to the NewPage mills in Chillicothe, Ohio, Wickliffe, Kentucky, and Escanaba, Michigan.
