Japan's Uni Charm takes control of joint venture with Swedish firm

Uni Charm Corp., a major manufacturer of sanitary napkins and paper diapers, has raised its stake in a joint venture with Sca Molnlycke of Sweden, the world's largest maker of adult-use diapers, to 51% from 50%. By taking control of Uni-Charm Molnlycke KK, Uni Charm intends to better prepare for growing competition in the adult-use diaper market. The company's move comes amid the rapidly aging Japanese population.
The company set up Uni-charm Molnlycke in 1997 as a 50-50 joint venture with the Swedish company.
